After writing a few articles now and getting some much needed advice and wisdom on how I want to shape this newsletter I have decided to focus on two things to deliver in this content:
Curation - I am obsessed with design and as a result the majority of my newsfeeds and content streams feature design driven content. I’d love to start sharing the design related pieces of content that I find interesting. I’d like to share my design taste with you and explore where that taste is effective and where it can improve. I also like the idea of this feed having a journalistic flare to it. I hope that by going in this direction I’ll be able to share new design ideas and news in the field that inspires you in some way or at least provokes some thought.
Commentary - I would still like to share some short snippets on how I navigate the world of design and share some thoughts on the curation items I plan to list in these articles. I feel we each have a unique story to tell and hopefully my experiences will resonate with you in one way or another. I also hope to learn and be challenged when writing this content and sharing my experiences will hopefully lead to both of those things happening.
With that explanation out of the way lets get to using this new model:
The new AI design tool that I am interested in learning more about- UIzard
I am not surprised to see AI to design tools pop up like UIzard. Framer seems to be doing some exciting things with AI as well. I think we can either be terrified or excited about the future and AI and design and I am choosing (for now) to be somewhat optimistic about AI. There are definitely some sustainability and ethics concerns that need to be addressed but I am hopeful that we can learn how to use these new tools in a responsible way. I may turn out to be naive but we’ll just have to wait and see.
The eye opening article I read least week - Thinking in Triplicate
Erika Hall is a design voice I respect and admire. I always am eager to read and absorb what she puts out into the world but this article in particular resonated with me in a deep way. I want you to read it so I won’t say to much here other than this article should help you sincerely reflect and maybe even question your design career. Read the article here.A good reminder from Tobias Van Schneider
This is a good reminder for folks like me that sometimes (well often times) get too absorbed in the world of design.
A book I’m reading right now - The Service Organization
This has been a great read so far on the value and structure of services. The author argues that all organizations are performing or delivering services of some kind. I couldn’t agree more. Here is a link to the book.
A good quote to leave you with by Mario Maruffi
That’s all for this week. I hope you’ll enjoy this new format moving forward. I think I will and and as a result I hope to be posting more frequently!
